"The General" stages a dramatic comeback for fourth Rallycross medal in three years

Makita's longtime relationship with action sports icon Brian "The General" Deegan continues its success. Deegan, Metal Mulisha founder, X Games 2011 RallyCross Champion and the only athlete to compete in every X Games since 1999, took the 2012 X Games by storm last weekend and captured his fourth Rallycross medal in three years with a dramatic come-from-behind finish.

In Sunday’s race, Deegan started in the second row and came out strong. After the first lap there was a red flag restart where Deegan was sent to the back of the pack after judges called a false start. Despite being last in the line up, Brian drove smart, dodged a few crashes and battled into third place in the second-to-last lap where he then set his sights on closing the gap on second place driver Ken Block. Deegan cut a six-second deficit down to a car length at the finish as he just narrowly missed passing Block for the Silver.
Deegan pulled multiple celebratory donuts after crossing the finish line – not because he was extremely happy with coming short of a win, but as an indicator of how he drove the course in his battle back from last place.
"I came out prepared and I feel like I drove smart, to come from last to third proves that. The course was tight, there were a lot of strong drivers out there. I will be back next year to reclaim the gold," stated Brian.
On Friday night Deegan continued his streak of X Games domination as he competed in his 14th consecutive Moto X Step Up, the only athlete to compete in every Moto X competition since it began in X Games in 1999. It came down to the final three riders and Deegan didn’t disappoint, he was the first to jump a record-breaking 40 ft, claiming the Bronze medal.
