Car and Driver rounded up seven top 18V impact wrenches, and spent hours taking lug nuts on and off wheels. They also investigated the maximum fastening and loosening torques of each wrench using one-inch bolts screwed into a steel beam.
In the end, they called the Makita BTW450 "the strongest wrench we tested," noting that the Makita "unwound 600-pound-feet bolts with ease only after a few seconds of hammering."
The Makita 18V LXT Lithium-Ion Cordless High Torque 1/2" Impact Wrench packs 325 foot-pounds of torque created by 2,200 rotational impacts per minute. All Makita cordless impacts feature a proprietary hammer and anvil, manufactured using the best raw materials with highest quality steel and a unique heat hardening process for industrial grade performance.
The BTW450 is engineered for a wide range of applications including steel beam construction, telephone pole installation, mudsills and, of course, automotive. The BTW450 is a powerful and convenient substitute for air-powered and AC wrenches, and it's one of 35+ tools in Makita's growing line-up of 18V Lithium-Ion cordless tools.
