DUNGEY WINS IN SEATTLE, VUILLEMIN GRABS ANOTHER TOP TEN FINISH

Rockstar Makita Suzuki Team Rider Ryan Dungey started in second, then moved into first and stayed there to win the Lites class at the AMA Monster Energy Supercross in front of 48,238 fans at Qwest Field in Seattle.  Teammate David Vuillemin took ninth place in the Supercross class for yet another top ten finish this season.

Yamaha of Troy’s Jason Lawrence of Carlsbad, Calif. won the Western Regional AMA Supercross Lites class, and placed second in Saturday’s race just behind Dungey (pictured at middle- and below-right).  Dungey’s win in Seattle, his third in 2008, secured second place overall in Western Regional AMA Supercross Lites class.

“I was really happy with the way I rode tonight,” said Dungey. “I know where I made some mistakes this year, and I am going to fix them. I learned a lot this year.”

Vuillemin’s top ten finish was his ninth of the season, and placed him eighth overall for the season in the Supercross class.

The Supercross main event was won by Torco Fuels Honda’s Kevin Windham, of Centerville, Miss., for his second consecutive win despite a mishap early in the race. On lap 2, while leading, Windham suffered a mechanical malfunction when a banner got tied up in his back wheel. He stopped his bike and removed the banner from the rear wheel, dropping back to sixth place. Windham charged back through the field and re-captured the lead on lap 17.  Team San Manuel Yamaha’s Chad Reed, who came into the race 13 points ahead of Windham, crashed in turn one and started the race in last place. Reed charged his way to second place with a last-lap pass on Short. The second place finish put Reed in first place in the overall standings, while Windham remained in second.

“I rode great tonight,” said Windham. “I wish I came away with more points, but that’s how it goes. I am excited to go to Las Vegas next week. It’s going to be a great race.”

The AMA Supercross will air on SPEED Sunday, April 27 at 6:00 p.m., and the AMA Supercross Lites class race will air on SPEED Saturday May 3 at 3:00 p.m. EST.  Racing resumes
